For racing, for exercise, or just for fun, there are many reasons to own and ride a road bike. But because people’s needs — and road bike designs — are so varied, the top road bicycle for one purpose may be useless for another purpose. For example, a laid-back, comfortable road bike is a good choice for a casual ride around the city, but won’t make the best endurance road bike.
That’s why our list of the best road bikes is so long. We wanted to include an option that’s ideal for everybody! So we looked at a variety of frame materials and styles, different sized wheels, and, of course, a broad price range. Whether you’re looking for the top road bike brands, or just for the best road bike for the money, we’ve got you covered.
So are you ready to find the perfect road bike for your needs?
Let’s get going!

The Tommaso Monza Endurance features a reliable Shimano Tiagra crank, derailleurs, and shifters.
Key Features
- Aluminum frame with carbon fork
- Racing handlebars
- Shimano Tiagra shifters and crank
- 20-speed gearing
- 700mm aluminum wheels
- Weighs 21 pounds
- Available in 2 colors and 2 sizes
The Tommaso Monza Endurance is the first on our list, and we chose it for a reason: this is a solid, average quality road bike that’s a significant upgrade over many of the beginner models we’ll look at. This is primarily due to the Shimano Tiagra shifters and crank, which is the same pairing used on a number of high-end bikes.
This bike features a carbon fiber fork, a lighter alternative to steel. It’s not rugged enough for trail use, but on a road bike, it’s more than sufficient for the task. The only thing we didn’t like was the seat, which is hard, and on the narrow side.
At 21 pounds, the Monza is light enough for easy transport, but not in the ultra-light category. It’s also reasonably priced, but it costs more than beginner models. All in all, it’s a quality bike that’s a good baseline for comparison.
Pros
- Lightweight and durable
- Reliable shifting and gearing
- Good shock absorption
Cons
- Uncomfortable seat
This well-engineered road bike is a step up from beginner models.
2. Raleigh Bikes Redux
Features
- Lightweight 6061 aluminium double butted custom formed tubing with alloy blades fork with post mount disc
- 35mm alloy riser bars offer extremely light weight with serious strength
- Tektro hd-t285 hydraulic disc brakes offer the ultimate stopping power in all conditions
- Shimano Acera 9-speed shifters offer the simplicity of a 1x9 setup with enough gears for the hills
- Vee tire co. Silent 27. 5 x 47C tires provide all-terrain use from road to gravel
The Raleigh Redux 2 features a simple, 9-speed gearing system.
Key Features
- Aluminum frame and fork
- Straight handlebars
- Shimano Acera shifter and Shimano Alivio crank
- 9-speed gearing
- 26” aluminum alloy wheels
- Weighs 25 pounds
- Available in 4 sizes
The Raleigh Redux 2 is a workmanlike road bike that’s designed to get you from point A to point B without any fuss. It does this with a basic 9-speed gearing system, with a single gear on the main crank. Without a front derailleur, you have fewer moving parts, which makes the entire system more reliable.
On the other hand, you only have 9 gears. We can’t tell the difference between 9 gears and 20, so this is a minor drawback at most. The main downside of this bike is that it weighs 25 pounds, which is on the hefty side for a road bike. That said, the heavy frame is exceptionally durable.
Another thing we really liked about this bike were the wide, 1 ½-inch tires. These tires provide plenty of grip, making tight corners and sudden stops easier than ever. This makes the Redux 2 an ideal choice for urban cyclists.
Pros
- Wide, grippy tires
- Sturdy frame
- Simple gearing setup
Cons
- On the heavier side
This is a reliable road bike with a rugged, durable frame.
3. Savadeck T700

- Designed in the Wind Tunnel, the stays, seat post, and seat tube are aerodynamically contoured; fully internal cable routing ensures clean airflow over the entire bike; The tapered head tube strengthens the torsion rigidity and give riders a better handling.
- Oval concepts 6061 Alloy 40MM Bearing Wheelset and Continental Ultra Sport II (C304 SL) Wire 700x25C Tire. Free Pedals Included.
- Mostly assembled complete road bike, which is ideal for cycling beginners and enthusiasts.
The SAVADECK Warwinds 3.0 features a lightweight carbon fiber frame.
Key Features
- Carbon fiber frame and fork
- Racing handlebars
- Shimano Sora shifters and crank
- 18-speed gearing
- 700mm aluminum wheels
- Weighs 21 pounds
- Available in 4 colors and 5 sizes
The SAVADECK Warwinds 3.0 is the first SAVADECK on our list. This is a high-end manufacturer, and the Warwinds 3.0 is their budget option, which puts it in the same price range as most mid-range road bikes. If you’re looking to get your hands on a quality carbon fiber bike, but you don’t want to take out a second mortgage to pay for one, this is a solid choice.
The Warwinds 3.0 has a big, beefy frame with plenty of space inside, and SAVADECK capitalizes on the large size by routing all cables through the interior of the frame. Not only does this keep the cables’ weather exposure to a minimum, but it also reduces the odds of snagging.
Despite its size, this bike is lightweight, weighing in at only 21 pounds. It also runs a bit large, so subtract 2 inches from your height before you choose a size from the manufacturer’s chart.
Pros
- Lightweight
- Wide, grippy tires
- Quality shifters and crank
- Fully internal cable routing
Cons
- Sizing runs large
The internal cables on this road bike are protected from snags and weather.

Starting cycling can be intimidating, but we believe that new riders deserve bikes that deliver affordable performance without compromising on quality. We recommend the Forcella for new riders who are serious about their cycling goals. Unlike other so-called "beginner bikes" that are quickly outgrown, the Forcella comes packed with high-quality components, like a carbon fork, found on high end bikes
- READY TO TAKE YOUR RIDING TO THE NEXT LEVEL? Look no further than the Foreclla – the bike that's built to deliver the power, performance, and speed you need to conquer your first century ride or tackle those challenging hilly routes. Equipped with a top-notch 3x8 Shimano Claris drivetrain and an impressive gearing range, this bike is designed to make climbing hills a breeze while still maintaining the speed you need to dominate on the flats.
- NEVER MISS A SHIFT: Shimano Claris shifters provide consistent, reliable shifting in all riding conditions, so you can focus on pushing yourself. Please note that professional assembly is required to validate your warranty and ensure optimal performance
- BUILT TO LAST: All too often things are made cheaply and break before their time. We believe that bikes should be reliable and built to last. The Tommaso Forcella Endurance is designed as a reliable, comfortable choice for new riders.
Key Features
- Aluminum frame and carbon fiber fork
- Racing handlebars
- Shimano Claris shifters and crank
- 24-speed gearing
- 700mm aluminum wheels
- Weighs 22 pounds
- Available in 2 colors and 5 sizes
The Tommaso Forcella Endurance is, as its name implies, an endurance bike. This means it’s designed to be ridden for long periods of time. For beginning riders, perhaps the most important thing you’ll need in a bike is comfort. 90 minutes — or more — of riding can really put a strain on your body, so anything you can do to improve your ergonomics is a good thing.
Much of this bike’s comfort comes from Tommaso’s aluminum/carbon fiber frame and fork combination, which keeps your bike lightweight while still allowing for plenty of shock absorption. The 24-speed Shimano gear set is also nice. While it’s far more gears than anyone needs, there’s certainly nothing wrong with having plenty of options.
Shimano backs this bike with a lifetime warranty on the frame and forks. Just be careful about the stock tires; they wear out quickly and will need to be replaced sooner rather than later.
Pros
- Durable and lightweight
- Good shock absorption
- Lifetime frame & fork warranty
Cons
- Poor factory tires
This is a quality beginner road bike, with a rugged frame.
5. Tommaso Imola

We recommend the Imola for new riders who are serious about their cycling goals. Unlike other so-called "beginner bikes" that are quickly outgrown, the Imola comes packed with high-quality components found on high end bikes.

The Tommaso Imola Endurance is a rugged aluminum road bike with Shimano hardware.
Key Features
- Aluminum frame and fork
- Racing handlebars
- Shimano Claris shifters and crank
- 24-speed gearing
- 700mm aluminum wheels
- Weighs 25 pounds
- Available in 3 colors and 6 sizes
The Tommaso Imola Endurance is a similar build to the Forcella Endurance, but it features aluminum forks instead of fiberglass. This makes the bike a little less shock absorbent and a few pounds heavier, but it also saves you money and improves durability.
This bike is otherwise almost identical to the Forcella, right down to the shoddy factory tires, which will need to be replaced. On the plus side, it features the same complete Shimano Claris shifter and crank set, which is the most reliable inexpensive bike hardware on the market.
All in all, this isn’t the best bike, but it still beats out a number of beginner models. Consider this choice if you need a barebones performance bike that will last you for more than a few years.
Pros
- Durable
- Fantastic value
- Lifetime frame and fork warranty
Cons
- Poor factory tires
If you want a budget road bike that will last you long after you’re a beginner, this is a good choice.

- Racing handlebars
- Shimano Ultegra shifters and crank
- 22-speed gearing
- 700mm carbon fiber wheels
- Weighs 17.4 pounds
- Available in 3 colors and 6 sizes
The SAVADECK Phantom 5.0 is the first bike on our list that we would consider a truly professional-grade machine. To begin with, it’s constructed from 100 percent carbon fiber, including the frame, forks, seat post, handlebars, and even the wheelset. The result is a super-light, 17.4-pound bike that’s shock absorbent enough to handle the odd pothole.
This bike features a Fizik saddle, which is the same one used by the Italian national cycle team. It’s designed for long-term comfort, making it an ideal choice for extended rides.
If that’s not enough, the Phantom 5.0 utilizes the Shimano Ultegra 22-speed shifter and crank set. With 2 gears on the main crank and 11 on the rear, you’ll experience some of the smoothest shifting available. And with internal cables, you’ll be safe from snags, rust, and other cable problems.
Pros
- Ultra-lightweight
- Comfortable Fizik seat
- Good shock absorption
- Fully internal cable routing

- Racing handlebars
- Shimano Claris shifters and crank
- 16-speed gearing
- 700mm aluminum alloy wheels
- Weighs 23 pounds
- Available in 4 sizes
- Assembly available for an extra fee
The Raleigh Merit 2 is built with an eye for durability, as opposed to a low weight. At 23 pounds, the aluminum frame isn’t terribly heavy, but it’s not a lightweight either. It’s also exceptionally rugged, which makes it a good choice if you may end up taking your road bike across a woodland trail or two.
This bike comes with Shimano Claris shifters and crank, which are nothing special as Shimanos go, but are some of the better hardware on the market overall. If you’re not comfortable with doing your own assembly, there’s no need; Raleigh will do it for you, for a price.
When you’re buying this bike, order a size smaller than you normally would. They tend to run large, which doesn’t leave a lot of space for standing up while you pedal.
Pros
- Durable construction
- Smooth shifting
- Good choice for beginners
Cons
- Sizing runs large
This road bike is available pre-assembled, which makes it an ideal choice for beginners who don’t want to risk doing their own assembly.

Equipped with a top-notch 3x7 Shimano drivetrain and an impressive gearing range, this bike is designed to make climbing hills a breeze while still maintaining the speed you need to dominate on the flats.
- NEVER MISS A SHIFT: Shimano Tourney shifters provide consistent, reliable shifting in all riding conditions, so you can focus on pushing yourself. - Racing handlebars
- Shimano Tourney shifters and crank
- 21-speed gearing
- 700mm aluminum wheels
- Weighs 23 pounds
- Available in 2 sizes
- Assembly available for an extra fee
The Tommaso Fascino is an all-aluminum bike that’s built to be a high-performance beginner’s model. As a result, it’s constructed with speed and durability in mind, and comfort isn’t much of a concern. You’ll probably want a new seat if you’re riding for any extended period since the stock seat is narrow, hard, and uncomfortable.
That said, the Shimano Tourney crank and shifters are a fantastic investment. While they’re a bit on the heavy side, they’re also precision-machined for racers, which makes this bike a good choice if you intend on racing in the future.
All in all, this bike has a lot to offer beginners. It’s a great value, as long as you’re more interested in speed than you are in comfort.
Pros
- Durable
- Quality gear set for the price
- Great beginner bike
- Affordable
Cons
- Uncomfortable seat
- Poor shock absorption
This is a tough, durable road bike that won’t break the bank.
9. Beiou
Features
- Finish:3K glossy

- Speed Control System: LTWOO Rear switch 20S
- Bike Weight:about 8.5KG

- Straight handlebars
- LTWOO or Shimano Tiagra shifters and crank
- 20-speed gearing
- 700mm aluminum wheels
- Weighs 18.8 pounds
- Available in 4 colors and 6 sizes
The BEIOU Legend is a carbon fiber bike that’s proudly manufactured in China. No “assembled in the USA” obfuscation here, this bike is Chinese, through and through. On the downside, this makes us question the overall quality. On the upside, it’s the most affordable all-carbon bike on the market.
Because of its carbon fiber construction, this bike is very light, weighing only 18.8 pounds. This makes it easy to carry anywhere you aren’t able to ride. The carbon fiber also absorbs more shock than aluminum, providing a smooth, comfortable ride.
Depending on which version you buy, you can get LTWOO or Shimano hardware. We recommend paying a few dollars extra for the Shimano gear, rather than taking your chances with an off brand.
Pros
- Ultra lightweight
- Good shock absorption
- Good value
Cons
- Made in China
The BEIOU is the most affordable all-carbon bike you’ll find.
10. Tommaso Sterrata

We recommend the Sterrata for new riders who are serious about their cycling goals. Unlike other so-called "beginner bikes" that are quickly outgrown, the Sterrata comes packed with high-quality components, like a carbon fork, found on high end bikes
- UNLEASH YOUR ADVENTUROUS SIDE: The Sterrata is the ultimate off-road experience, with 700x40c tires, designed to conquer any terrain with unwavering stability and versatility. To withstand the harshest challenges, we use the unstoppable TC-30D rims, with the durability of 28 spokes, ensuring a smooth ride that smashes any terrain. When it comes to stopping power, the Avid BB5 disc brakes have you covered, providing the additional stopping force needed to tame any weather or trail condition.
- NEVER MISS A SHIFT: Shimano Claris shifters provide consistent, reliable shifting in all riding conditions, so you can focus on pushing yourself. Unlike our competitors, who cut corners and use off-brand parts to save money, we use a 100% Shimano drivetrain. Why? The Tommaso Sterrata combines a durable Tommaso aluminum frame with a shock-absorbing carbon fiber fork.
Key Features
- Aluminum frame and carbon fiber fork
- Racing handlebars
- Shimano Claris shifters and crank
- 24-speed gearing
- 700mm aluminum wheels
- Weighs 23 pounds
- Assembly available for an extra fee
The Tommaso Sterrata is a mid-priced road bike that’s better made than most others in the price range. It features a rugged aluminum frame, with a shock-absorbing carbon fiber fork and a wide, padded seat that keep you comfortable even on longer rides.
This bike features wide, 40mm tires that grip the road while you’re cornering, and give you plenty of traction on slick surfaces or trails. That’s not to say that the Sterrata is a mountain bike — it isn’t — but it’s tough enough to handle less demanding trails.
This bike is a great choice for beginners, both because of the quality Shimano gears and because of the option to order it fully assembled. However, the factory brakes tend to chatter. Consider replacing them, if you can.
Pros
- Fat, grippy tires
- Plenty of shock absorption
- Comfortable seat
- Good choice for beginners
Cons
- Poor factory brakes
This road bike offers a smooth, comfortable ride, whether you’re on the road or on the trail.
11. Schwinn Phocus 1600
Features
- Aluminum road frame with carbon fiber road fork for quick agile riding; 700c wheels, this bike fits riders 5 feet 4 inches to 6 feet 2 inches in height
- 16-speed shifter / brake lever combination offers precise, smooth gear changes
- High profile alloy double wall rims with paired spokes are lightweight and strong with front quick release
- Promax alloy dual pivot caliper road brakes deliver crisp, secure stops
- Alloy crank for wide gear range; road style tread tires supply fast and smooth riding
The Schwinn Phocus features a rugged Schwinn frame that can take a lot of abuse.
Key Features
- Aluminum frame and carbon fiber fork
- Racing handlebars
- Shimano shifters and derailleurs
- 14-speed Schwinn gearing
- 700mm aluminum wheels
- Weighs 25 pounds
- Available in 2 colors
- Assembly available for a fee
The Schwinn Phocus is a rugged, inexpensive bike that does what Schwinn does best: a tough, made-in-the-USA aluminum frame. However, this bike also falls victim to some of Schwinn’s worse traits, like using cheap gears to keep the price low. That said, the shifters and derailleurs are still Shimano-made, which is better than we’d typically expect on a bike this inexpensive.
The Phocus is built primarily for comfort, with a carbon fiber fork for extra shock absorption and a wide, comfortable seat. Assembly is available as an option, although it’s already mostly assembled out of the box. You’ll just need to attach the wheels and calibrate the brakes.
This bike comes with a lifetime manufacturer’s warranty, so you can rest assured that it’s going to last a while.
Pros
- Durable frame
- Comfortable seat
- Lifetime manufacturer’s warranty
- Inexpensive
Cons
- Heavy
- Questionable gear quality
This is the best inexpensive road bike on the market.
12. 6KU Fixie
Features
- Lightweight Full Aluminum Frame and Fork
- 0mm Deep V Double-Walled Alloy Wheels
- Ride Fixed Gear or Freewheel with a Flip-Flop Hub
- Easy Maintenance and Upkeep
- 30-Day Hassle-Free Return Policy
The 6KU Fixie is very affordable and can be ordered fully assembled.
Key Features
- Aluminum frame and fork
- Straight handlebars
- Single-speed design
- 700mm aluminum wheels
- Weighs 21 pounds
- Available in 6 colors and 10 sizes
- Assembly available for a fee
The 6KU Fixie is an inexpensive road bike that’s very durable for the price. It’s constructed from 100 percent aluminum and can handle a lot of abuse, although its rigid design means you’ll probably want to stick to paved roads.
For all its ruggedness, this bike weighs in at only 21 pounds, making it easy to transport. And because the manufacturer offers assembly, it’s a good choice for beginning riders. The price is also agreeable, considerably less than most road bikes on the market.
Unfortunately, this is a single-speed bike. You won’t be able to downshift for inclines or upshift for speed on a level stretch. This limits its usefulness on a lot of terrain. However, it makes the bike easy to assemble and even easier to maintain, since you don’t have as many moving parts.
Pros
- Lightweight and durable
- Simple design
- Inexpensive
Cons
- It’s a single speed
This is a simple, no-nonsense, single speed road bike.

Title | Vilano Shadow 2.0 Road Bike - Shimano STI Integrated Shifters |
UPC | 811548023839 |
UPC List | UPC List Element: 811548023839 |
The Vilano Shadow is a rugged, all aluminum road bike.
Key Features
- Aluminum frame and fork
- Racing handlebars
- Shimano STI shifters and brake levers
- 14-speed Vilano gearing
- 700mm aluminum wheels
- Weighs 24 pounds
- Available in 3 sizes
- Assembly available for an extra fee
The Vilano Shadow is a middle-weight bike that’s neither too heavy nor particularly light. It’s constructed entirely from aluminum, from the fork to the frame to the seat post. This frame is very thick, with enough space to accommodate internal cable routing, which is unusual on a bike at this low price point.
Like a lot of other beginner bikes, the Shadow is available with pre-assembly, although that costs extra. It includes Shimano STI shifters and brake levers, but Vilano’s in-house gears are poorly machined. Worse yet, they’re a 14-speed set paired with 21-speed derailleurs, so shifting is rough when you’re changing gears on the main cam.
That said, this is a durable, affordable starter bike that will get you out on the road and keep you there.
Pros
- Durable construction
- Internal cable routing
- Affordable
Cons
- Rough gear shifting
- Uncomfortable seat
This is one of the few budget road bikes to feature internal cable routing.
14. Vilano Diverse 3.0
Features
- Performance Hybrid road bike
- Hydroformed Alloy Performance Hybrid Frame and Fork
- Disc Brakes for Great Stopping Power, 700c Wheels and 700c x 35c Tires
- Upright Handlebar for Comfort
- Free Pedals Included, Bike Requires Assembly and Tuning
The Vilano Diverse is a well-designed bike considering the low price point.
Key Features
- Aluminum frame and carbon fiber fork
- Straight handlebars
- Shimano STI shifters and brake levers
- 24-speed Vilano gearing
- 700mm aluminum wheels
- Weighs 24 pounds
- Available in 2 sizes
- Assembly available for an extra fee
The Vilano Diverse is similar to the Vilano Shadow, in that it’s a budget build with a few Shimano parts. Instead of a full aluminum frame, the Diverse features a hybrid design with a carbon fiber fork for better shock absorption, and straight handlebars for a more familiar feel.
The gearing has also been upgraded from a 14-speed to a 24-speed. However, the Vilano gears still aren’t right for the Shimano STI shifters and derailleurs, which are designed for a 21-speed bike. While the Shadow shifts roughly on the main cam, the Diverse shifts roughly on the rear cam.
Then again, you get what you pay for, and this is an inexpensive bike. Even if you decide to pay for assembly, it costs considerably less than many of the mid-range road bikes on our list.
Pros
- Durable construction
- Good shock absorption
- Affordable
Cons
- Rough gear shifting
- Uncomfortable seat
This Vilano bike features a carbon fiber fork for better shock absorption.

The ultralight Mavic Aksium Elite wheels are also a welcome addition. These wheels are made from aluminum, not carbon fiber, so they’re strong enough to take some abuse. But they’re also designed to save weight, keeping you as mobile as possible.

The Poseidon Triton is a beginner bike, which means it’s a budget-priced bike that’s designed to give beginners a taste for the performance and feel of a road bike, without any fancy bells and whistles or expensive premium hardware. It utilizes Shimano’s Claris drivetrain, which gets the job done reliably but is barebones as far as Shimano hardware goes.
This bike ships from the manufacturer with low-quality tires. You’ll get a few hundred miles out of them, but you’re going to need some serious tires sooner or later if you want to keep riding.
The Triton has an aluminum frame, with a lightweight carbon fiber fork that does an effective job at shock absorption. It’s available pre-assembled or disassembled with an instruction book.
Pros
- Durable and lightweight
- Good shock absorbance
- Affordable
Cons
- Comes with low-grade tires
This road bike is a solid beginner option, with no major glaring faults.

- 16-speed Giordano gearing
- 700mm aluminum wheels
- Weighs 24 pounds
- Available in 2 colors and 2 sizes
- Assembly available for an extra fee
The Giordano Libero is a mid-weight road bike that’s designed for beginners. More to the point, it’s one of the few entry-level road bikes with a women’s frame. So if you need to wear a skirt while you’re pedaling around, consider this bike.
The Libero features a rugged aluminum frame, which can stand up to the wear and tear of daily use. It also has Shimano Claris shifters and derailleurs, which require little maintenance and function smoothly. However, the aftermarket gear set doesn’t align perfectly with the Claris, which leads to some slipping while you shift gears.
That said, this bike is a great value for the price, and will last for years if it’s maintained properly.
Pros
- Durable construction
- Women’s frame
- Affordable
Cons
- Poor shock absorption
- Finicky shifting
If you need a road bike that also works with a skirt, this is the way to go.

Pros
- Sturdy women’s frame
- Rear fender cargo rack
- Wide, comfortable seat

- Affordable
Cons
- Heavy
This bike is an ideal choice for the dedicated urban shopper.
Bottom Line
Wow! There are lots of good road bikes on the market, and many of the best road bike brands are reasonably priced, so you don’t have to buy some bargain basement brand just to get the best value road bike.
One thing we should mention is the difference between frame materials. Traditional steel bikes are durable, but very heavy, although many modern forks are still made of steel. Aluminum is lighter, but not quite as durable. Titanium is the lightest frame metal, and is as strong as steel; however, it’s also very expensive. Carbon fiber is also lightweight. It’s strong but doesn’t deal well with repeated heavy impacts, so people who are rough on their bikes should consider a metal frame.
And that’s about it. We hope at least one of our road bike reviews has gotten you into a bike you’ll love for years. At the very least, we hope you learned more about the best road bike brands and features, so you can make an informed decision.
